ImageBill Cutler, Sullivan County's recycling and solid waste management guru spoke to the club about the great value of composting.  With 30% of most household trash being organic, it is logical to start a compost pile rather than sending those recylcable nutrients to the landfill.  Bill recommends a ratio of about 3 parts brown(paper, coffee filters, dry grass, shredded paper) to 1 part green(food, grass clippings...) to get the best result.  Compost piles should be mixed regularly and water should be added to keep it moist.  He tells us that recycling is being utilized by most homes now, but composting is the next major step in helping our community reduce its waste.  It's always great having Bill as our guest, who is very enthusiastic about his topic and an oustanding speaker.
