Liberty Rotary Club was fortunate to get an education about some of the programs Sullivan County Public Health Services is working on through our guest speakers Catherine Freda and Nancy McGraw on 12/15/15.  The organization's objective is to prevent illness and disease, and to protect and promote public health within the framework of New York State Public Health law.
A large portion of the program informed the group of the great concern with the spread of heroin and other opiate use in our area.  Ms. Freda and McGraw explained Project Lazarus, which is a community coalition to prevent overdose.  Along with this project is an effort to train primary responders  how to administer Narcan, a lifesaving antidote, which can reverse the fatal effects of an Opioid overdose, which includes certain pain medications and heroin.
We thank our guests for this informative and very serious discussion and for their efforts in keeping our community safe.
