District Governor Tansukh Dorawala joined Liberty Rotary Club for a meeting on January 11th.  While visiting, he spoke of his life, his mission, and his appreciation for the work that Rotary does for communities and throughout the world.  Tansukh summarized our work by stating, “We are passionate, caring and we have no personal agenda in terms of family, religion and personal beliefs.   We leave those things aside and work together.”  This statement seemed so very fitting as the Liberty Rotary Club is composed of people of various ages, religions, careers, and socioeconomic status, all joining together to serve our community and our fellow man.

D.G. Dorawala spoke of the similarities between his life and RI’s President.  They started their lives just a small distance apart in India.  Both had successful careers as chemical engineers and both went on to serve in a significant capacity in Rotary.  “Life is made of choices, and the choices the President and I made brought us together in the same year.” our goveronor said.

January is Rotary awareness month.   You can read about all the things our organization does, but after visiting 61 clubs in the district “What makes Rotary great is Rotarians.” D.G Dorawala said “As Rotarians we have the choice to help somebody, and most often we make that choice.”

During Tansukh’s speech, he praised our local club’s president Dave Thomson as well as the work of Nick Constantino and all the club members.  He went on to point out that we are an organization of 1.2 million members and with Interact Clubs and other affiliates we have the power of as many as 2 million people.  What is even more impressive is that unlike so many other organizations that come with biases and agendas, our single commitment to people of every kind has made Rotary and Rotarians welcome everywhere.

Liberty was the last of District Governor Dorawala’s series of visits to the many clubs that he oversees.  We can confidently say that we enjoyed his wit, warmth and commitment and hope that he found the experience equally rewarding.   As D.G. Dorawala said, “If we’re not having fun, most likely , it won’t happen.”  We are fortunate that our group is known for the fun we have and that is one reason why we make things happen.
