Gary Silver and Gary Siegel Share Their Experiences from Haiti

Our own Gary Siegel and Gary Silver presented to our club and shared their experiences during their humanitarian mission to Haiti.  Gary and Gary represented the Liberty Rotary Club on a mission executed by Archangel Airborne.

The pictures shown during their presentation left no doubt that Haiti is extremely poor and has been burdened with hurricanes, earthquakes and a history of leaders that have kept the beautiful island from finding even minor prosperity.  Literacy rates are very low there and sanitation is horrendous.  Streets are used as open sewers and garbage dumps.

While in Haiti, Gary and Gary delivered two bucket water filtration systems to local families.  The top bucket is for chemical filtration and the lower one has a carbon filtration system for removal of particulates and chemical impurities.  As a result, clean, potable water can be created in about an hour.  Their mission worked in conjunction with Gift of Water, which has already distributed about 45,000 water filtration systems to the region.

Liberty Rotary Club will be pursuing a global grant to further the effort to bring clean water to Haiti.  It is hoped that by working with the fine people at Archangel Airborne, that our small club in New York can bring clean water and better health to an island with incredible need.
