Henrietta Phelps from the Interfaith Council Food Pantry came to our meeting on 4-4-12 to tell us about the very important services that she and her staff provide to those in need.

Located at the Lutheran Church in Liberty, the food pantry is open 3 Fridays a month. Churches are the guiding force of the organization, but donations from multiple sources provide the funding and food they need to sustain. Henrietta tells us “the people are good here in Liberty and the donations keep coming and a lot of people get fed.” On an average month almost 300 people are given bags of food. “Newer people are coming and times are tough. Men are out of jobs and although some may feel embarrassment, they are encouraged to come for food.”

The pantry staff consists of many regulars.  No help is refused and there is plenty to do to keep them busy.

Liberty Rotary Club is proud to make a number of donations to the pantry throughout the year.   Our most recent donation of $1250.00 should assist the pantry in purchasing the grocery items that those struggling in our community need so very much.  In the past, we have also made other monetary donations, as well as doing food collections at our local supermarket.

Liberty Rotary Club also provides the food and service for 3 of the Community Dinners each year held at the Lutheran Church.

Henrietta is a marvelous human being and Liberty Rotary Club admires her tireless dedication to those in need.  As a group we are very proud to support this important service to our community.   It is an honor to assist in taking care of our neighbors that are struggling.
