LIBERTY –– The Liberty Rotary Club (LRC) recently held their eighth annual Hummingbird Award and Paul Harris Fellow Luncheon in the Liberty High School Cafeteria.

LRC honored Barbi Neumann-Marty, Joanne Gerow, Sharon Toney-Finch of the YIT Foundation, Denise Lombardi, Dr. Ron Israelski, Doug Smith and the Sullivan Public Library Alliance (SUPLA) as the newest “hummingbirds,” while Greg Goldstein, Lori Orestano-James and Theresa Grafmuller were honored as Paul Harris Fellows.

Also, longtime educator and Liberty Rotarian Jack Strassman was recognized as the first recipient of the “Golden Hummingbird Award.”

LRC’s Hummingbird Award recognizes those doing their part to make their community a better place, while the Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals as outstanding Rotarians and/or community leaders who have demonstrated the Four Way Test and performed “service above self.”

All funds raised at the luncheon will benefit the Liberty Rotary Club’s Haiti Clean Water Project, which was established to provide necessary supplies and support to the over 1,000 Haitian families that have received water filtration systems as a result of a global grant from the Rotary Foundation. These systems are providing healthy, clean, potable water to thousands of men, women and children in Cap Haitien.
