We had a great night August 24 when the Rotary district meeting was held in Liberty at Hanofee   ark.  About 60 Rotarians from throughout the region attended and were treated to salmon or steak, corn, watermelon, salad, potatoes, dessert and greatbeverages.  Liberty Rotary did a great job and we were very well  represented by many members. The food was great, the pavilion looked nice and our club worked beautifully together to make the evening a success ; setting up, shopping, cooking, serving, selling 50/50 and raffle tickets, cleaning up….a lot of work went into the night and a lot of fun was had.  In addition to Liberty Rotarians  there were members from Walkill East, Middletown, Monticello, Livingston Manor and Poughkeepsie, nearly everyone from our club attended and helped make the evening a great success.

The Assistant District Governor Karen Fitzpatrick spoke about the future of Rotary and the District Membership chair (who I believe was ChristopherTomaskovic) spoke about how important it is to tell people how much fun we have in Rotary (we do) and how important it is to recruit young members (we do!) and how important it is to get everyone involved in bringing in new members (we do okay on that but…could do better!)  We are very proud of our new members and of their contributions to our club and it was nice to be able to go around the room and point out Barbi, Jeremy, Gary (Silver) and Peter(Ehrenberg) as new members and great assets to our club.

Among the highlights of the evening:

Ø      The camaraderie

Ø       the speakers

Ø      the food

Ø      the weather (!)

Ø      the price that Liberty has for their club and

Ø      the pride that Rotarians have for what they do

Ø      the outstanding food  (thank you Liberty Diner and Carmine’s Meat Market)

Ø      The Raffle!  The winning ticket was pulled at the event and it belonged to Charlie Irace!!  That was a great effort on the part of many; in particular Russ Bogie for delivering the grill at a moment’s notice whenever needed and Jack Strassman and Gary Siegel for their organization of the raffle.  Thanks also to Dave Thomson, Barbara Blakey, Pam Kraus, Gary Silver, Gary (Lee) Silverman, Pat Abbot and Sue Kraycer for taking their time to sell tickets on the weekend making the raffle a HUGE success!!!
