Liberty Rotary donates to A Single Bite

LIBERTY – The Liberty NY Rotary Club (LRC) recently made a $7,050 donation to A Single Bite, from funds raised during their Dave Thomson Spirit, Beer and Wine Tasting fundraiser.

The event, held last month at Piccolo Paese, benefitted the non-profit, as well as the LRC’s scholarship fund, which last year alone, distributed over $6,000 to students continuing their academic careers at the collegiate level.

“Rotary can only accomplish its goals by establishing strong relationships with community partners,” said LRC President Gary Silverman. “There are few groups doing more in our area to assist those dealing with food insecurity than A Single Bite. The combination of Liberty Rotary Club members working with representatives from A Single Bite made for a great team. We are delighted the event turned out to be so successful. The efforts and contributions of so many, enabled us to fortify the Liberty Rotary Club Scholarship fund to promote education in our local schools. Additionally, we raised a substantial amount of money for A Single Bite, which continues to bring essential food to our neighbors.”

A Single Bite, started by Foster Supply Hospitality Co-Founders Sims and Kirsten Harlow Foster, began as a program educating students about why good food is important, with the goal of addressing the undermining of health of Sullivan County residents and hopefully changing the trajectory of participant’s lives.

While continuing this program, the non-profit also shifted its food-based mission to feed local neighbors in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. With community support, A Single Bite and Foster Supply Hospitality raised funds to prepare and deliver more than 90,000 meals since March 2020 – now 600 servings per week – to local families struggling to put food on the table. And they'll continue to support them for as long as they need assistance.

“A Single Bite is ever grateful to the Liberty Rotary Club and its members for our continued partnership,” said Executive Director Audrey Garro. “This significant contribution will help our non-profit provide more than 600 free, weekly meals to children and their family members, and to educate Sullivan County students about real food and healthy choices.”
