*************************THERE WILL BE NO MEETING APRIL 30*******************************

LITTER PLUCK (Sunday, April 27)

The Sullivan County Litter Pluck has been scheduled for the last week in April.  We will be meeting at the Liberty Jeff Bank Parking lot at 10:00 AM on Sunday, April 27 to take on the task!!  Many of us have ordered our Yellow Rotary T-Shirts for the event so that we will be easily recognizable – and safer- along the road.   If you would like a t-shirt please contact Dave Thomson (dthomson@warwick.net) to order.  They are $10 each, yellow and they say Liberty Rotary on the back.  So far…Juliette, Matt, Gary Silver, Gary Siegel, Jack Strassman, Barbara Blakey and Judy Siegel are planning to be there.  All are welcome and encouraged to join us!

REGION 5 DINNER/ TURKISH JUDGES (Tuesday, April 29)
The Liberty Rotary Club is a member of Region 5 in district 7210.  Our Region includes the Monticello, Livingston Manor, Mamakating, Port Jervis, Walkill-East and Middletown clubs. Two to three times each year the region hosts meetings that we are all encouraged to attend for the purpose of fellowship and networking and the next meeting is April 29 at 6PM at Bernies Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill.  This meeting is unique because the Monticello Rotary club is hosting 6 progressive Turkish Judges as part of the Open World Program. They will speak to our clubs about Turkish law practice versus American Law practice. Please let me know ASAP if you plan to attend.   The cost is $28 per person.  We will NOT be having our regular meeting that week.

CONGRATULATIONS LIBERTY ROTARY!! (Thursday, May 1)

The Liberty Community Development Corp (CDC) “unanimously and enthusiastically” has selected the Liberty Rotary club to be the first recipient of the ‘Torchbearer for Liberty Award’.  They stated that “there is no better organization in Liberty to begin and set the gold standard for what they expect to become a long list of annual award recipients”.   The award will be presented at an awards celebration dinner on Thursday, May 1 at Cracolici’s on the Green at 5:30 PM. Tickets are $50  and can be reserved by calling the CDC at 845-292-8202 or going to their website  info@liberty-cdc.org . Members, friends and family members are welcome to attend.  We will NOT be having our regular meeting that week.

*If you would like to attend but find that the cost is prohibitive, please do not hesitate to email me at jsiegel523@gmail.com

NEVERSINK MUSEUM (Wednesday, May 28)

The Livingston Manor Rotary Club has invited us to join them for a tour of the Time & The Valleys Museum located on Main Street in Grahamsville.   The tour will include the current exhibit ‘Tunnels, Toil & Trouble –NYC’s quest for water and the Roundout-Neversink story’  and other interesting exhibits that delve into NYC’s water in the early part of the last century and how lands were taken and about the people that built the tunnels and reservoirs.   Several Rotarians were instrumental in volunteering time to build the new museum-an entire wing of the new Daniel Pierce Library in Grahmsville.  The cost for dinner and the tour is $12 and reservations can be made by emailing me at jsiegel523@gmail.com

TOUCH-A-TRUCK (Saturday May 17)

The second annual CDC Touch a Truck fundraiser will be held on the 17th of May.  Our Liberty Rotary Club is a sponsor and is planning to have a table set up  If anyone would like to volunteer help provide information about Rotary at the table, please contact Gary Siegel at  cdtripsllc@gmail.com

GREAT JOB

Liberty Rotary had 12 bowlers on 3 lanes to help support the Bethel Lyons raise money for St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital and other Lyons Projects.  Once again—we made a difference!  Everyone had fun-Mike Williams learned that Bowling is a contact sport- and our contribution to the event was 10% of the money raised.   Thanks to Rotarians Matt Sush, Amy Hinkley, Jack Strassman , Mike Williams, Gary Siegel and Malek Rabadi, for continuing to make us proud to be Rotarians.

RYLA (June 28-July 3)

The applications are in, the interviews are done and the students have been selected.  Thanks to the committee; Gary Lee, Gary Silver, Malek Rabadi and Barbara Blakey for your work.   The students attending RYLA this year are:  Gillian Williams, Danielle Rabadi, Margaret Deis, Patrick Murphy and Ashley Holloway.  We look forward to hearing from them after their experience.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE (June 27-29)

The Rotary District Conference is being held in Lake George this year-a family oriented conference.  It’s a great way to meet, network and bond with other Rotarians from district 7210 .  You can view more information from the following link

LIBERTY ROTARY RADIO

We’ve been doing a great job on Thunder 102 talking about our Rotary club. Tune in Wednesday’s from 5:25 – 5:30. We are booked up through April-we need volunteers starting May 7th.  Please drop Gary Siegel a note (cdtripsllc@gmail.com) if you would like to take a few minutes to speak

PRE DINNER SOCIAL

Our meetings start at 6:30 but Yiasou has offered us the ‘ante room’ to use between 5:30 and 6:30 for a pre-meeting social hour.  It’s a chance to sit around a talk to those that generally sit at the “other” table.  A number of us have been enjoying this opportunity--stop by and have a soda, wine or beer and enjoy the fellowship. *Catskills Foxwoods Casino has requested support from organizations in Liberty as community support is critical to their application.  They are having a grand opening for their Liberty office on Wednesday. April 23 at 6PM at the former Verizon store near shoprite.  Anyone that is interested in showing that support can stop by their new shop before the meeting.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

So far, Sue Kraycer, Dan Parkhurst and Russ Bogie, Jesse Friendlander,  Karin Hilgersom and Peter Ehrenbreg have provided us with some interesting stories about their histories and how they came to be Rotarians. Dave Thomson is next May 7th.  We have taken summaries of the presentations and placed it in a member book so that we have a record of who are members are.  Who is next?
