The grand and historic Rivoli Theater is large and expensive to maintain.  They have a small mortgage, a large roof with many leaks, and a high heating bill.  Heather Strauss and Kim Schneeberger of the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop came to our February 1st meeting looking for ideas about how they can better fundraise to meet the great cost of maintaining their building.  This is the first year they are in the red and they are looking for input and assistance to make ends meet.

The club members, who have a long history of raising funds for worthy causes offered the following suggestions:

·         Look for grants to support the arts.

·         Get the word out to get people to come see live theater.

·         Consider a sponsor a seat fundraiser, much as The Forestburgh Playhouse had done.

·         Consider selling pavers or plaques on the wall.

·         Contact the local school clubs and tell them that you need help.

·         Consider accepting non-performing members at an annual fee.

·         Consider inviting local politicians and dignitaries and then ask them for assistance through grants and other funding sources.

The group has the following upcoming events:

January – Valentines show with a Post Modern Jukebox style show.  10 performers.  Hurleyville.

June – 39 Steps

July – Noises Off (Comedy)

August – Sweeney Todd

September – How I Met Your Mummy

October – Haunted Theater

If you would like to make a donation, please contact the group or check out their GoFundMe page.  Thanks to Heather and Kim for letting us know of your needs.  The club will be making a donation to support the group in their efforts to bring great entertainment and live theater to our area.
