Supervisor Charlie Barbuti Optimistic about Casinos
Charlie Barbuti spoke to Liberty Rotary Club in January and told us that we are in a good
position to get a casino in the Town of Liberty. The hotel and golf
course of Grossingers are owned by Capelli and Associates. The rest of
the adjoining property is owned by Muss Development, who has merged with
Foxwoods to try to develop the Liberty/Grossinger site. Should we get a casino, estimates are the
revenue to the local municipality could be 13 million dollars. Charlie tells us that one casino will likely
land in Sullivan County and there is a chance for a second. Locations will be determined by the best applications and may be decided by the
end of this year.
The applicant must show evidence of community support. That is where Rotary can be proactive in bringing a casino to Liberty. Our support of the concept and assistance in showing that support could be very valuable. For further information and to offer input, Foxwoods Casino will have a local representative in Liberty soon.
