Larry Palant of Shelter Box USA came and spoke at our November 20th meeting. Larry's presentations are always quite moving, but the relevance seems even greater due to the devastating typhoon that recently occurred in the Phillippines.

For those unfamiliar with the program, Shelterbox delivers temporary housing to families around the world that have been affected by some form of disaster.  In the last 13 years, Shelterbox has assisted in 200 disasters in 90 countries.

After Larry spoke, the board voted to work with the other clubs in our region to support at least 2 shelter boxes. Each green box costs $1,000 and is tailored to a disaster, but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit and a children’s activity pack. You can track a box that you donate so that you can see where it lands and you can rest assured that the money you donated is going to be put to good use-it will never rot on some airplane tarmac waiting to be delivered.
